Şeyma Barut
BIOGRAPHY
Şeyma Barut, born in Istanbul in 1987, received her bachelor's degree from the Painting Department of Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University. She graduated from there in 2017. Since her student years, her paintings have been featured in numerous exhibitions, fairs, and projects. She currently lives in Istanbul and continues her work in her studio there.
Barut has long been interested in the dominance of society over genders and its effects on individuals. Through her imagery, she aims to make the viewer question the current situation, what should be, or what is expected, by referring to them. In her current works, she focuses on the subject-object-space and individual-society relationship.
“STUDIO” SERIES
The Studio series is inspired by the changing and transforming nature of the artist's production space at different times. Stacks of paintings, some facing us, are periodically replaced by new ones; an unfinished painting on an easel or a newly finished portrait from another time left to dry. This series, featuring such images, serves as a document of the artist's relationship with time and space.
“CONTACT”
Focuses on the issues of bodily boundaries, inviolability, and their violation.
