The Singular Self

Artist Yekateryna Grygorenko
Date February 25 – March 25, 2022

A narrative on body, identity, and existence.

The Wall Art Gallery presented “The Singular Self,” the first solo exhibition in Turkey by Ukrainian artist Yekateryna Grygorenko, who lives in Izmir and works between Izmir and Istanbul.

In her works, the artist questions the individual's existence and modes of being through body forms. She states that she draws inspiration from her own body and identity, shaping her artistic expression with an interdisciplinary perspective.

Focusing on both the inside and outside of the body, the artist; revealed a surreal perspective by reflecting her perversions, desires, and instincts in her works. She invited the viewer into a world of reality that is normless, ruleless, cultureless, and singular.

Through the practice of sewing and embroidery, which she uses in a large part of her works, Grygorenko touched upon the sanctity of concepts such as woman, birth, mother, and reproduction . By treating her creations as a birth occurring spontaneously with an animalistic instinct, she brought the reality of her own world to the audience.

The exhibition “The Singular Self” met with the audience at The Wall Art Gallery between February 25 and March 25, 2022 .
