The Wall Art Gallery

The Wall Art Gallery

Foundation

The Wall Art Gallery was founded in 2021 by Ferhan Karaselçuk, the proprietor of FK Media and Artisans magazine, which focuses on contemporary Turkish art. As a natural extension of the connection Artisans has established with the Turkish art scene for more than a decade, the gallery was designed to transform its deep-rooted publishing experience into a physical and digital exhibition space.

Mission

The Wall Art Gallery's mission is built around two main principles: exhibiting leading figures in contemporary Turkish art and providing a platform for emerging artists who will carry Turkish art into the future. In addition, to adapt to the rapidly digitalising world, the gallery has developed “The Wall” online platform, which aims to build a bridge between artists and collectors beyond geographical boundaries.

The Gallery's Journey

History and Milestones

2019

Artisans Magazine 4th Anniversary Exhibition

Before the gallery was established, the founding team celebrated the fourth anniversary of Artisans magazine with a 15-day exhibition curated by Fırat Arapoğlu at Global Art Gallery.

The exhibition featured works by artists who had appeared in the magazine, including Ahmet Rüstem Ekici, Balkan Naci İslimyeli, Barış Cihanoğlu, Bedri Baykam, Hakan Sorar, Hasan Pehlevan, İsmet Doğan, Murat Palta, Okan Koparan, Onur Fırat Fen, Sabahat Çıkıntaş, Tan Mavitan, Yalçın Bilgin, Yiğit Yazıcı and Yusuf Taktak, as well as paintings created by eight autistic children.

This selection became an early example of the gallery's inclusive and socially conscious programme.

2020–2021

Online Community During the Pandemic

Artisans magazine, which has been published for more than a decade, built a broad community of artists through open calls shared on social media.

During the pandemic, this community came together online for the first time through www.twartgallery.com to maintain the connection between artists and collectors while physical venues were closed.

7 January 2022

Opening of the First Physical Gallery

As the pandemic approached its end, The Wall Art Gallery provided its artist community with a permanent physical space: a historic building in Karaköy dating back to the Genoese period.

The gallery opened its doors to art lovers on 7 January 2022 with two simultaneous inaugural exhibitions.

Since then, an uninterrupted exhibition programme has been maintained across the venue's three floors. The first two floors were dedicated to solo and group exhibitions by represented artists, while the third floor was reserved for independent emerging artists.

Twice a Year

On The Wall Summer & On The Wall Winter

Twice a year, the gallery presents its now-traditional On The Wall Summer and On The Wall Winter exhibitions.

Lasting approximately one to one and a half months each season, these exhibitions occupy the entire gallery space and bring together between 40 and 50 artists, including the emerging artists featured on the third floor.

These exhibitions have become an important part of the gallery's identity and Istanbul's contemporary art calendar.

April 2026

New White Cube Space

As of April 2026, The Wall Art Gallery moved to a new venue that retains its historic character while being transformed into a contemporary white cube exhibition space.

This move demonstrates the gallery's continued development while preserving its founding vision of positioning contemporary art practice within a historical context.

From more than a decade of independent art publishing and a digital platform born as an online response to the pandemic, to the historic gallery building in Karaköy and today's new white cube space, The Wall Art Gallery has continually built bridges: between established and emerging artists, between print and digital platforms, and between artists and collectors.

The On The Wall Summer and On The Wall Winter exhibitions, together with the spaces opened to emerging artists, reflect a programme that is both rooted in tradition and actively shapes the future of Turkish contemporary art.
